Whangamata Radio Association was formed in 1881 equipped with a SSB and a VHF radio running radio schedules at specific periods during the day. In 1986 we became Whangamata  Volunteer Coastguard Radio Inc. The word radio being dropped when in In 1999 we commissioned our first rescue vessel. This vessel is still in service today.
