World-First Live Rescue Mission
Help Coastguard by taking part in a world-first Live Rescue Mission
On Wednesday 3rd February at 5.50pm, a realistic ‘first person’ piece of film will transport TV One viewers from their armchairs into the shoes of a Coastguard volunteer in the deep end of a rescue operation in the Hauraki Gulf. They’ll then be invited to head online to www.liverescue.co.nz to join the virtual search effort, where they’ll find themselves in a simulated Coastguard Air Patrol search plane, scouring the New Zealand coastline in real time for the missing boat.
Throughout the night there will be further television updates giving people more information to help with their simulated online search, with radio listeners also invited to join the mission. But be warned, locating the missing boat won’t be a simple task.

Coastguard Encouraged by Summer Boating Trends
Coastguard New Zealand says its volunteers have had a steady start to the summer season, with a similar number of calls for assistance compared with the same period last year.
Over the period from 1 December 2009 to 17 January 2010, Coastguard volunteers dealt with 869 incidents, including search and rescue operations, compared with 871 during the same period in 2009.
