Raglan Volunteer Coastguard grew out of Raglan Sea Rescue which was a community rescue service formed by local fisherman  and other individuals to assist those who found themselves in distress.

We deliver SAR and breakdown assistance to recreational and commercial mariners on the west coast of the North Island; Crayfish Point (north) to Tirua Point (south) & to the 12 nautical mile limit.

Until 2003, when our first PWC was put into service, Raglan unit operated a 6 metre aluminium, purpose built rescue vessel powered by a 5L V8 running on av-gas driving a Hamilton waterjet unit. We also ran a 12 metre Waveney class (ex RNLI) DRV. In 2005 the Waveney was replaced with our present vessel that has proven to be a reliable  and practical platform for all situations.

Our wet crew are required to undertake rigorous physical training to qualify for PWC duties culminating in a group swim to shore after being dropped from Gallagher Rescue outside Raglan Bar.

We take part annually in a Sarex which involves all local community emergency services as well as Waikato Police SAR  and Waikato Westpac Air Ambulance.

Twice a year we hold a public education Bar Safety Day in conjunction with Waikato Regional Council. The Bar Safety Day was introduced by Raglan Sea Rescue over 20 years ago and the structure of the day is now used as a template throughout the Northern Region to educate mariners in the art of crossing bars.

Training - Wednesday, 1730hrs, throughout the year, plus optional personalised training on weekends.

Executive Committee Meeting - 3rd Tuesday of month 1900hr, St Johns Meeting Room
