Helpinghand

There are 69 Coastguard Units around the country.  That's Coastguard in a community near you.  This year (ended July 2010) Coastguard volunteers returned 6,560 people to safety.

There are always projects on the go and our brave volunteers spend time fundraising for these projects.  We'd rather they were out on the water training; so we are letting you know about some of the needs.  As the charity that saves lives at sea - your donation could help your local community with one of these life saving projects.

Here's how you can help

Coastguard Hibiscus - new rescue vessel

The Hauraki Gulf is the country's busiest boating area in New Zealand.  The Coastguard unit at Hibiscus is building a new 9.5m Coastguard rescue vessel.  The total project is worth $425,000.  What could you give?

Coastguard Turangi - new rescue vessel

Yes - Coastguard is present on the major lakes and rivers of New Zealand.  In fact the number of Coastguard rescues on fresh water are on the increase with 6.1% of rescues this year on fresh water.  Coastguard Turangi is needing to replace their current rescue vessel with a new 9m Rescue Vessel.  This project is worth $400,000.  Can you lend a hand?

Coastguard Wellington - engines

We all remember the Wahine, or have heard tales about it.  Due to this disaster Coastguard Wellington came into existence.  This Unit now needs to replace the engines on its Rescue Vessel. This project is worth $69,000.  What can you give toward these engines?

Coastguard Sumner Lifeboat - engines

One of the longest established Coastguard Units in the country.  However, engines wear out and the engines on Hamilton Jet Rescue need refurbishment to give them a new lease of life.  This project is worth $20,000.
